Family Day is coming up on Monday, Feb. 16. It’s a provincial holiday here in Alberta, one that’s designed to help bring families together for the day.
There’s lots to do in and around Calgary, including free events. But there are also public parks, playgrounds, rec centres and more to consider. In Calgary, we have it all.
Our city is maybe one of the best in Canada to raise a family, and we encourage you to take some time away on Feb. 16 to unplug with your loved ones. Here are all the best ways to do just that.
Fishtival
Dive into the depths of Alberta’s icy waters and experience the wonder of fish this winter at the 14th annual Fishtival. Celebrations include family-friendly games and activities complete with casting, fish feeding, tasty bites, and more.

Family Fishing Weekends Alberta
During Family Fishing Weekends, Albertans and visitors are encouraged to give fishing a try on waterbodies with open fishing seasons, without having to purchase a sportfishing licence.

Family Day at Studio Bell
Although admission to the living museum is usually ticketed, the National Music Centre will offer free access to Calgarians on Family Day, allowing you to take a blast through the past of Canada’s vibrant music history.

The Wildlife Festival
Hang out with a Tamandua Ant Eater, meet a sloth and hop with baby kangaroos!

Tuscany Family Day Winter Party

Family Day at Lougheed House
The Lougheed House will open its doors to community members of all ages for a fun, free admission day of activities. Join them for crafts, free tours, and a chance to explore this historic house.

Access to the Penguin Walk is free with ticketed admission to the zoo. It’s a daily enrichment exercise for the local penguin colony, one that’s only done if the temperatures don’t heat up to 5°C or dip below -25°C. Additionally, strong winds can blow over the penguins, so the walk is scheduled, weather permitting.

WinSport Servus Tube Park
