I have always respected the democratic process. Albertans have a legal right to hold their elected officials accountable, and I respect the petitioners for exercising their rights and for participating in our political system.
Over the 90-day signature period, the petition gathered just 1,326 signatures. To put that in context, over 11,000 people in our community voted for the NDP in the last election. It is entirely understandable that those voters disagree with our government. Conservatives felt exactly the same way about the NDP government from 2015 to 2019.
Over the last three months, this process has generated a lot of political debate. I welcomed the opportunity to defend my record. However, with the signature period now officially closed, it is time to put the politics aside and move forward.
My focus remains exactly where it should be: on the work you elected me to do.
Serving as a Cabinet Minister gives our community a strong voice at the highest levels of decision-making. My advocacy happens directly in Caucus and at the Cabinet table, where I ensure Strathcona-Sherwood Park gets the investments it deserves.
I will continue advocating for our local priorities, just as I did to secure $100 million in funding for our new schools. That investment means state-of-the-art facilities for our students. I am equally proud of securing $89 million in funding for more long-term care beds at Sherwood Care, ensuring our seniors can age with dignity in the community they built. I also secured $1 million for the new Strathcona County Food Bank Nourish Centre to support vulnerable families. I am here to serve and deliver results for our community.
I am also energized to continue my work as Alberta’s Minister of Technology and Innovation. We have generational opportunities in front of us.
I will keep working to expand high-speed internet to every corner of the province. We are turning our funding agreements into fibre in the ground. I will continue to enforce the strongest privacy and data protections in the country. And I will lead our strategy to attract massive data centre investments to secure Alberta’s place in the economy of the future. This will attract billions in capital and drive unprecedented economic diversification.

CALGARY, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Canadian oil sands producer Suncor Energy (SU.TO), opens new tab will present the market this spring with options it is considering for securing long-term bitumen supply, the company's chief executive said on Wednesday.
The bitumen supply question will be one of the central themes of a new long-term vision the company plans to unveil at a March 31 investor day, Rich Kruger told analysts on a conference call.
"We know it needs to be bold and ambitious, clear and compelling, to keep your interest and support," Kruger said.
Calgary-based Suncor has spent a number of years exploring options to sustain the supply of thick, sticky oil sands crude to its Base Plant upgrading facilities north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Suncor's Base Plant has a production capacity of 350,000 barrels per day, according to the company's website, but its Base Plant mine is expected to be largely depleted by the mid-2030s.
One option the company has proposed is a new, 225,000-bpd, open-pit oil sands mine expansion, which would be located adjacent to its existing Base Plant operations.
However, it has not made a final investment decision to go ahead with the project and it remains unclear whether such a project would get the go-ahead from Canadian regulators.
Suncor has been framing its upcoming investor day as the beginning of the next phase of what has been a remarkable turnaround story for the company.
Less than four years ago, the company's previous CEO Mark Little resigned following a string of worker fatalities and operational mishaps that had resulted in Suncor shares significantly lagging its peers.
Kruger, a former Imperial Oil (IMO.TO), opens new tab CEO, was coaxed out of retirement and tasked with reviving the company's flagging fortunes. Since then, Suncor's performance has improved dramatically. On Tuesday, it announced record fourth-quarter financial results, including a new high of 909,000 bpd of production.
The company has also reduced its WTI break-even price by $10 per barrel since 2024, relying on automation and workforce reductions to achieve its cost-cutting goals a year ahead of schedule.
The market is keenly awaiting Suncor's upcoming investor day to get a glimpse of what it plans, particularly with respect to potential capacity additions and longer-term capital expenditures, said TD Cowen analyst Menno Hulshof in a note.
"We are also hoping for improved visibility on how (Suncor's) portfolio/strategy could evolve over the next five, 10 or even 15 years. This remains a key investor question, in our view," Hulshof said.

One of the most critical files I manage is the push for universal high-speed internet. In 2026, connectivity is not a luxury; it is a necessity. It is the digital highway that allows our businesses to reach global markets and our students to access world-class education.
Perhaps most importantly, connectivity is a lifeline for rural healthcare. Rural Albertans know all too well the challenges of living miles away from a major hospital, especially when managing a chronic condition. Reliable high-speed internet opens the door to better options—like remote monitoring tools that let you stay in your own home while your doctor keeps an eye on your vitals in real-time. It means faster responses and better care, without the stress of constant travel.
When I was first elected, the situation in rural Alberta was dire. For four years, the previous NDP government completely ignored rural broadband. They didn’t have a strategy, they didn’t have a plan, and they didn’t budget a dime for it. They left rural communities behind.
I took a different approach. I knew that fixing this problem required a massive, coordinated effort. In 2022, I created and launched the Alberta Broadband Strategy and personally negotiated a historic partnership with the federal government. We secured a joint commitment of $780 million to eliminate the digital divide.
Since then, we have moved rapidly from making announcements to getting fibre in the ground.
On January 30th, I was proud to share the latest milestone in this journey. Alongside the federal government, we announced over $249 million in public funding for 27 new projects that will connect more than 83,600 households.
The local impact is significant. In Strathcona County alone, this announcement funds connectivity for 1,036 homes. This brings the total number of local households supported by our partnership since 2022 to 6,153.
With this latest investment, I can confirm that we are now 95.3 per cent of the way to our goal of universal coverage. This is what “getting things done” looks like. It isn’t about shouting on social media; it’s about doing the heavy lifting to negotiate deals, secure funding, and get shovels in the ground.
While others focus on political distractions, I am delivering the infrastructure that will drive Alberta’s economy for the next generation. Whether it is building new schools here in Sherwood Park or building the digital networks that connect us to the world, I am proud of my record.
Regardless of the noise in the political arena, my priority remains the same: working hard every day to serve the people of Strathcona-Sherwood Park.
