What is Client Directed Home Care Invoicing?
This Alberta Health Services program lets you choose a qualified, registered home care agency (like Always Best Care) to deliver your publicly funded home care services. Your chosen provider will work with you to deliver care that meets your approved needs, and they bill Alberta Blue Cross directly for the subsidized portion of your care.
It means you get:
- Choice over your care provider.
- Flexibility in tailoring care to your needs.
- Control over who comes into your home.
Who is Eligible?
You may qualify if you:
- Are an Alberta resident with a valid Alberta Health Care card.
- Live in the community (not a facility).
- Have been assessed by an AHS Case Manager as needing home care.
- Have needs that are predictable and suitable for this program.
If your AHS Case Manager determines this is a good fit, you’ll get an approved number of funded care hours per month.
What Home Care Services are Included in the Program?
Services depend on your AHS assessment and can include:
- Personal Care: hygiene, dressing, medication reminders, safe mobility and transfers, nutrition, respiratory care.
- Homemaking: health-related cleaning (e.g., bathrooms, mobility equipment), incontinence laundry.
- Respite Care: giving family caregivers a break when seniors can’t be safely left alone.
At Always Best Care, we also help families coordinate additional services if they need more hours than what’s funded.
How Does CDHCI Work?
- Call 811 to speak with an AHS Case Manager.
- Get assessed to confirm your care needs and program eligibility.
- Choose your provider from the Alberta Blue Cross registered list. Always Best Care is proud to be one of them.
- Your provider bills Blue Cross directly for your approved care hours.
