The Tyrannosaurus Rest Bed and Breakfast was originally constructed in 1912 as a home for the owner of the Newcastle Mine, the first coal mine in the Valley. It was owned by the family for 27 years, then as a private residence for another 54 years before it was turned into a bed and breakfast in the early 1990s.
The Tyrannosaurus Rest Bed and Breakfast is centrally located in downtown Drumheller and within walking distance to some of the town’s main attractions. The World’s Largest Dinosaur is just up the road from the bed and breakfast, outside of the Visitor Information Center. Tyra, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, can be seen from all over town and even miles away. Visitors can climb up 106 mural-lined stairs to Tyra’s gaping jaws, where the Canadian Badlands open up on the horizon.
The accommodation at the Tyrannosaurus Rest Bed and Breakfast is versatile, with four different rooms available for solo travelers, couples, or the whole family. On-site amenities include a library, parlor, dining room where breakfast is served, a porch, and a yard.
The Heartwood Inn is a quieter option on the edge of downtown Drumheller. All ten of their rooms have their own signature style. Some rooms have jetted tubs for two, oversized showers, and even a fireplace. Each room varies in size and number of beds, making it suitable for family vacations or romantic honeymoons.
Hoodoos are found throughout the Badlands, but the Willow Creek Hoodoos are only 15 minutes east of Drumheller and are regarded as some of the most iconic. Designated pathways allow for up close observation of the Hoodoos, which vary in size between 16 and 23 feet. Hoodoos are sandstone columns topped with a capstone that protects them from erosion. However, they are delicate structures that have taken millions of years to form, so it is important to remain on the designated walkways when visiting this site. There are informative signs along the walkways detailing information on the area, history, and local geography.
The Hoodoos are suitable for viewing year-round. There is a designated parking lot equipped with pit toilets and a picnic shelter.
The Willow Creek Hoodoos are a fun stop on the way to the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site, which preserves the last of 139 coal mines in Drumheller, making it the most complete historic coal mine in Canada. The mine was in operation between 1936 and 1984. The site runs seasonally from May to October.
The site is located 14 miles (23 kilometers) southeast of Drumheller, including both underground and surface workings from the Atlas coal mines. Visitors can explore residential builds, view the last wooden tipple in the country, and join guided tours, which should be booked up to two weeks in advance. For additional fees, you may ride the train or visit the processing plant.
Dinosaur Provincial Park, although a must-visit when in Drumheller for the weekend, is roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Drumheller, or about 105 miles away. The Royal Tyrrell Museum, on the other hand, is much closer to town, only four miles northwest of Drumheller. It is the only museum in Canada solely dedicated to studying ancient life. Additionally, it contains one of the largest displays of dinosaurs in the world, including five specimens that are Guinness World Record holders, three of which are on display permanently. This includes the largest marine reptile, the most complete tyrannosaurid skeleton, and the best-preserved armored dinosaur in the world.
The museum is open year-round; its hours vary with the seasons, so be sure to check ahead of time. Due to the popularity of the museum, visitors are advised to purchase pre-booked timed tickets to guarantee entry and avoid waiting in queues.
Despite being a hub for exploring the region’s rich dinosaur history and the Canadian Badlands Prairie landscape, downtown Drumheller is a day of its own. Go on a self-guided Drumheller Dino Walk through town to see some of over 30 dinosaur statues placed across town. The dinosaurs are, first and foremost, art pieces, and not scientifically accurate. Therefore, some of them are cartoonish and comical, but delightful nonetheless.
Gourmet burgers and a selection of over 75 different milkshake flavors go hand-in-hand at Bernie and the Boys Bistro, one of the top-rated restaurants in town. The bistro stands out for the large size of its burgers and generous portions.
Make your way to Riverside Park to relax after your meal. There are benches and tables, both hidden in the shade and exposed to sunlight, sprawling grassy areas for recreational use, and a nature trail that connects to other areas in Drumheller.

The City of Menlo Park continues to process the Willow Park development application at 80 Willow Road. 1. The Proposed Project The proposed project is located on a 6.7-acre site at 80 Willow Road in the Linfield Oaks neighborhood (Location Map). The project proposes demolition of all existing structures to construct a new mixed-use development with approximately 665 residential units, 301,000 square feet of office, 17,000 square feet of retail, and 171,000 square feet of hotel (130 rooms). The proposed preschool building (approximately 3,000 square feet) would be 22 feet tall and the other three proposed buildings would range from 301-458 feet tall. The existing site was the former headquarters of Sunset Magazine and was deemed eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and is listed in the California Register of Historical Resources.

2. Development Review Process The applicant is pursuing the proposed project through multiple avenues, including, but not limited to, the so-called “Builder’s Remedy,” Senate Bill 330 (SB 330), and streamlined processing under Assembly Bill 2011 (AB 2011), briefly described below:

3. Environmental Review The project is subject to environmental review pursuant to CEQA unless exempt through other processes (such as AB 2011). In May 2025, the City approved a professional services contract for LSA Associates to perform the required environmental analysis. The environmental review work has not begun and is pending the applicant’s deposit of funds for the consultant to begin the work.

4. Challenged Conduct On Nov. 19, 2025, the applicant submitted a letter challenging the City’s conduct related to the City’s prior determinations that the project is ineligible for AB 2011. Pursuant to State law, the City must respond to the applicant’s challenged-conduct correspondence between Jan. 18, 2026 and Feb. 17, 2026.
On Feb. 10, 2026, the City issued a challenged conduct response letter to detail how the City’s actions have not “disapproved a housing development project.”

“For this extraordinary infringement on the sovereign borders of other municipalities, Fort Worth and Aledo seek a declaration that the annexations at issue were unlawful and void ab initio, thereby rendering void all actions taken by Willow Park in relation to the unlawful annexations,” the plaintiffs’ petition reads.
A Fort Worth spokesperson declined to comment on the litigation. A Willow Park spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. An Aledo spokesperson shared the following statement:
“The City of Aledo has brought suit to protect its sovereign municipal boundaries. It’s unfortunate that it has come to litigation, but Willow Park refuses to respect other cities’ municipal boundaries.”
Fort Worth and Aledo are not seeking monetary relief, according to the court petition, but the cities have asked for a temporary injunction to halt further development on the annexed land.
The property in question is owned by developer Robert Beall and was formerly part of the Dean Ranch. The property was once in Fort Worth’s ETJ, but Beall petitioned the city to release it. In November 2024, Willow Park annexed the land into its ETJ at Beall’s request.
However, Fort Worth and Aledo argue the Bankhead Highway kept the Beall property from being contiguous to Willow Park’s boundaries, meaning it couldn’t legally be annexed.
A message left for Beall at his office was not immediately returned.
In February 2025, Willow Park annexed 7,313 feet of the Bankhead Highway, from just west of Nu Energy Drive to FM 1187. The plaintiffs argue that also was done in violation of the law as a way to establish contiguity with the Beall property after it had already been improperly annexed.
According to a Weatherford News report from February 2025, Beall’s company, Beall Development, is planning for single-family residential, multifamily residential, commercial and light industrial development on the annexed site. The property’s page on the Beall Development website doesn’t provide specifics, other than identifying the location.
“Now part of Willow Park, TX, Beall Investments is working with various partners on the next phase of development,” the webpage says. “This site is perfectly positioned at the southwest corner of I-20 and FM 1187 with the city of Aledo’s ETJ along the southern boundary and the city of Fort Worth’s ETJ along the eastern boundary.”
Fort Worth and Aledo’s court petition acknowledged the Beall property’s tremendous value.
“This tract of land, known as the ‘Beall Property,’ is the subject site for a proposed development that would ultimately bring significant new sources of revenue to Willow Park,” the filing reads.
The Weatherford News reported the $500 million development would “roughly double the city’s current sales tax collection.”
