Begin at the Crowfoot LRT Station, navigating some busier roads past the Crowfoot Crossing Shopping Centre before connecting to Arbour Lake side streets and a paved pathway up and over Stoney Trail to the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway. Six Calgary neighbourhoods have been named among Canada's wealthiest in the latest ranking by Canadian Business.

Each year, the magazine teams up with Environics Analysis to produce the Canada's Richest Neighbourhoods ranking, which measures the average household net worth of the people living in each area. Net worth figures are publicly available from census data and market intelligence but none of the data reflects the finances of any particular individual.

The borders of each of the neighbourhoods measured has been defined by Statistics Canada and the wealthiest 25 of them made it on to the list.

Below are the Calgary neighbourhoods and their rankings.

20th — Roxboro

The average household net worth in Roxboro is $6.38 million while the average annual household income is $845,038. The average home sells for $1.39 million. It ranks fifth among Alberta's richest neighbourhoods in terms of net worth but residents are in second place provincially in terms of average annual household salary and own the second most expensive homes.

19th — Mount Royal

The average household net worth in Mount Royal is $6.54 million, with most households bringing in an annual average income of $617,128. The average home sells for about $1.29 million and the analysis suggested residents here are less likely than those in other Alberta neighbourhoods on the list to take exotic holidays or take part in gallery-hopping and symphony-going.

18th — Eagle Ridge

The average household net worth in Eagle RIdge is $6.55 million and the average household annual income is $660,328. Most houses sell for abut $1.13 million and 76 per cent of residents here voted Conservative in the last election.

17th — Bel Aire & Mayfair

The average household net worth in Bel-Aire and Mayfair is $6.59 million and the average annual household income $553,556. The average home price is $1.35 million and compared to their wealthy peers on this list, residents here are the most likely to have travelled to Europe or the Caribbean lately. They're also the most avid skiers.

16th — Britannia

The average household net worth in Britannia is $7.02 million, with the average annual household income clocking in at $1.45 million. The average home sells for $2.28 million and although the neighbourhood ranks 16th in terms of household net worth, residents in Britannia have the highest average annual household income of any Canadian neighbourhood on the list.

Edworthy Park is a popular park in central Calgary for its riverfront location and hillside paths. Hop on a bike or walk to the top for a great view of the city and surrounding area. CAIRO – 14 July 2020: The team of the archaeological survey mission operating in the desert plateau region, west of Abydos, revealed a group of openings at a high point on the mountain front that date back to the Ptolemaic era, and it is likely that it has great religious significance.

Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that these openings are located in the Holy Valley area, south of the royal cemetery in Umm al-Qa’ab.

After careful examination, it was found that these entrances lead to rooms cut into the rock. Its height is not more than 1.20 meters. It varies between one, two or three rooms. Another group consists of five rooms connected together through narrow holes cut across the rock walls separating them.

Mohamed Abdel-Badi, head of the Central Department of Antiquities of Upper Egypt and head of the mission, said that these rooms are not decorated. It is located above deep vertical wells linked to natural water tunnels.

According to Abdel-Badi, most of them contain pottery fractures, fountains, terraces, and a number of sunken circles or pans cut on the floor, in addition to a number of small holes in the walls directly below the ceiling and gaps near the entrance openings, which were likely used as handles or for strapping ropes.

The mission also found a room with “graffiti” inscriptions for a name that reads “Khou-so-n-Hour”, his mother “Amon Eardes” and his grandmother “Nes-Hour”.

He added that the pottery scattered on the surface of the valley located to the south of the royal tombs in Umm al-Qa’ab indicates the era of the Modern Kingdom and the Late Kingdom.

The visible fracture showed a visible and strong presence for the use of the place during the Ptolemaic period, especially the second and first centuries BC, as well as the period of the late Roman era; but in a less common and widespread presence in the place.

Among the fractures, one dating from the Late Kingdom marks the edge of a vase spanning back to the Late Kingdom era, which originally belonged to a jar with a long neck and a spherical shape made of oasis mud and imported to Abydos during this period, and another dating back to the Ptolemaic era, which represents the upper part of bowl from the Ptolemaic era. It is characterized by a groove that encircles the bowl just below the rim. It was made locally from Nile mud.

For his part, Matthew Adams, MD at the Institute of Fine Arts, University of New York and co-director of the North Abydos Mission, said that these rooms are not cemeteries, as there is no indication that any of them was used for burials.

Adams further explained that it is located inside the sacred valley south of the royal cemetery in Umm al-Qaab, which the ancient Egyptians thought was the way to the other world [afterlife], and that its location on a high point inside the mountain -which is very difficult to reach- indicates that it has great religious significance.

It is worth noting that the archaeological survey team records and documents human activities in the desert plateau, west of Abydos, from prehistoric times until the beginning of modern periods, on an area of ​​about 8 kilometers from the Sinki pyramid in the south to the Salmani quarries in the north.

Calgary city council has decided not to sell a parcel of land in Mount Royal to prominent businessman and philanthropist Don Taylor.

He was lobbying to purchase 3,700 square feet of land next to his property at the top of Hillcrest Avenue S.W.

​The sale has been controversial because of opposition from neighbours who wanted to see the land remain public.

City council debated the issue Tuesday afternoon and voted 9-3 to keep it. Councillors then voted 10-3 to negotiate a settlement with Taylor.

While the terms of the settlement have not been made public, the negotiation is not expected to include land.

"I'm simply gratified to see the city place a high value on public open space," said Charlene Prickett with the Mount Royal Community Association.

The green space was a gift from CP Rail in 1920 with the understanding that it would remain public.

In the letter previously sent to his neighbours, Taylor said that until 2006 he was under the impression the land already belonged to him. There was even a basketball court on it when he purchased the lot with a spectacular view of Calgary’s downtown roughly 20 years ago.

When the slope adjacent to the property began to fail a few years ago, Taylor says he paid roughly $812,000 to help cover the costs of a retaining wall on the condition he would be allowed to buy the land back at fair market value.

But one neighbour said that deal only came about after "protracted negotiations" and it was a cost-shared arrangement among the city and all of the affected homes in the area.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says the contentious issue is among one of the most disappointing experiences he has had during his time in office.

"I didn't appreciate the tone that was taken by many members of the community," he said. "Not all, in fact I should be more specific and say the Cliff Bungalow-Mission community did not take that tone."

Taylor could not be reached for an interview.

His son David Taylor wrote in an email to CBC: "My father is on his way back to Canada. We are not going to comment until the city contacts us and explains their ideas on settlement."

The businessman is known for donating tens of millions to local universities and the Calgary Stampede.

Some of the donations include $25 million to build the Taylor Family Digital Library at the University of Calgary, a $40-million endowment to create the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning at the school and $20 million for a new concert hall at Mount Royal University.
