About the Client Directed Home Care Invoicing program (CDHCI)

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is an Alberta Health Services (AHS) program that helps pay for in‑home care while you choose the care provider that best fits your family.

Always Best Care is an approved CDHCI provider in Edmonton and can direct bill Alberta Blue Cross for the funded portion of your care hours.

Call (587) 741-8357 to find out if you qualify and get help starting your application.

How it Works

How the Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) Program Works

Who is Involved

  • Alberta Health Services: Assesses your needs and approves a set number of funded care hours.
  • Alberta Blue Cross: Manages payments and invoicing on behalf of AHS.
  • You (the client/family): Choose an approved provider and pay any difference in hourly rate.
  • Always Best Care: Delivers in‑home care and bills Alberta Blue Cross directly for your funded hours.

What the Program Covers

Typical services that can be funded through CDHCI include:

  • Personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting).
  • Mobility assistance and safe transfers.
  • Medication reminders and routine wellness checks.
  • Light housekeeping related to care and meal preparation.

Services not usually covered (or only partially covered) may include heavy housekeeping, home maintenance, and non‑essential extras; these can still be arranged as private pay add‑ons.

Who is Eligible for Client Directed Home Care Invoicing?

Basic Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for CDHCI, clients generally must:

  • Have an AHS home care assessment and be approved for home care services.
  • Have a predictable, ongoing level of support needs (not short‑term crisis only).
  • Live in an area where CDHCI is available and where approved agencies can provide service.
  • Be willing to participate in managing their care plan or have a representative who can.

Financial Responsibilities

Under CDHCI:

  • AHS funds approved services at a set hourly rate.
  • You pay the difference between that funded rate and the agency’s hourly rate (if any), plus any extra services you choose that are not covered.
  • Always Best Care invoices Alberta Blue Cross directly for the funded portion, so you are not stuck managing complex paperwork.
