What Does Respite Care Look Like?

Respite care simply means someone steps in so you can step away.

Examples include:

  • A caregiver stays with your parent while you attend appointments.
  • Overnight support so you can sleep.
  • A few hours of help while you run errands.
  • Weekend support while you recharge.
  • Supervision for a loved one living with dementia.

Care can be arranged occasionally or on a regular schedule.

Many caregivers wait too long to ask for help. Taking a break means you’re protecting your ability to care for someone you love. Respite care lets you rest, recharge, and keep being there for your family.

What Our Families Are Saying About Our Care Services

Andrea Krol

“My mother experienced rapid dementia decline and we needed short term support for her safety”

“Excellent service! My mother experienced rapid dementia decline and we needed short term support for her safety (wandering) while making new living arrangements. Steve impressed me immediately with how quickly he responded and was able to provide support. He really took the time to understand and address my concerns, asking great questions to get to know my mother so the team could provide the best care in ways that were comfortable for her. PSW’s Jennifer and Rose were both great fits for my mom, really connecting with her. Each morning I received an update on how the night went – these gave me assurance, and also helped me understand how to better communicate with my mother, so we can spending time together again instead of me always focusing on taking care of things.”

Diane

“The service from the company was flexible, organized, accomodating”

“I want to say how amazing our experience with Always Best Care has been. The PSWs that took care of my mother were wonderful with her: caring, patient and treated her with compassion and dignity. The service from the company was flexible, organized, accomodating and their focus was on our needs, not what worked for them. If we ever needed this service again, I would not hesitate to call them. Thank you to all of you for taking care of her.”

When is In-Home Respite Care Not the Right Fit?

We are committed to honest, transparent care recommendations. Temporary in-home respite care might not be the safest or most effective option if:
  • Intensive medical care is needed: Your loved one requires round-the-clock skilled nursing interventions (e.g., IV therapy or complex wound care) rather than personal care and daily assistance.
  • A permanent transition is necessary: You are unable to resume your primary caregiver duties and need an ongoing, long-term care plan or assisted living placement.
  • There are severe behavioural risks: Your loved one exhibits severe physical aggression or high flight risks that require a highly secure memory care facility.

Not sure what you need? We can still help. Even if short-term respite isn’t the perfect fit, you don’t have to figure it out alone. During your free consultation, our Care Coordinators will help guide you toward the right solution for your family.
